The bus picked us up at 7:45 am, early for a lot of us.  Drove to Union Station where we picked up Judy, our guide for the day.  St Louis was founded in 1764. The city of St Louis and 7 counties has a population of 2.5 million. In 1849 there was the GreatFire. After that only bricks and stone could be used for construction.  St Louis hosts the second largest Mardi Gras celebration in the US. It is a very diverse community as there are 75 ethnic groups here, the latest from Bosnia.

We toured the Cathedral Basilica of St Louis which was built in 1907. It is a very beautiful church with mosaics composed of 41.5 million pieces of tiles.  It holds over 2,000 people.

Next we drove by the Jefferson Memorial Park.  It is one of the largest parks in the USA covering 1400 acres.  This area was the 1904 World's Fair.  Introduced at the world’s fair in 1904 were ice tea, the ice cream cone and hot dogs.

Next we drove to Union Station which was built in 1894 and had 32 tracks. Union station is called the Gateway to the West.  This was our lunch stop.  We went upstairs to see the Grand Hall which was beautiful.

Next stop was Busch Stadium.  It is the third stadium built for the Cardinals at a cost of $365,000,000.  Seating capacity is 47,000.  Our stadium guide was extremely knowledgeable in baseball, especially about the Cardinals.

Next we toured Budweiser Brewery.  We saw several Clydesdale horses.  The stable was built in 1885.  The brew house was built in 1891 and first used as a train depot.  During prohibition they produced a variety of soft drinks and bakers yeast to provide an income.

Our guide Judy did a great job and was very informative.

It was a long day so everybody was tired by the time we got back to the rv park around 6 pm.
