Day 14- Hannibal, Missouri

by:  Fred & Lola Osmun - Adventure 15

Our second full day in Hannibal Missouri "America’s Hometown", which is on the Mississippi River about half way between Iowa and St. Louis. It’s also known as the home of Samuel Clemmons aka Mark Twain; River-Boat Captain and writer of stories featuring Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Becky Thatcher, Injun Joe and others. The campground we’re staying in is Mark Twain Cave Campground.

We have some time for ourselves before the days planned activities, another nice feature of Adventure Caravans, so we’re not on the go every day all the time. We used the time to explore several areas; Lover’s Leap (What a view) where two indian lovers (allegedly) jumped to their deaths , the Cave, and sights around Hannibal, including Several Mansions, the Lighthouse and signs & statues.

We capped off the evening at Planter Barn Theater in downtown Hannibal and enjoyed stage veteran actor Richard Garey as Mark Twain Himself. Then it was back to the campground. Tomorrow we travel again.
